Great job! Will we get to hear more of your music from the visual novel eventually?

Step responds:

Yep, got around 16 tracks planned for the visual novel! This is the only one I've done so far since I haven't sat my ass down and gotten to work on them yet due to other stuff, but I'll be doing that soon so expect more tracks on Newgrounds eventually!

Thanks for dropping by mate, glad you like it.

Honestly, I don't think of this as better or worse than the original. It's more like an alternate version with alternate purpose.

I do personally prefer the original because I really love the harp part, and really the whole intro, and I feel like the cool beat came out better through the transition and the rest of the original. In this version, the beat drops out in a couple places and it just feels a little too dead to me, especially with the ending just slowly dropping down in intensity - it feels like the music is literally dying. Those are just my honest opinions.

Step responds:

Hey man, thanks a million for your honest review! It's interesting to see another perspective on this. Personally I feel like this is a much better version from the original, because I don't think the harp part added all that much to a track that felt more characterised by its bouncy drum beat and upbeat atmosphere than its peaceful harp + recorder section.

Additionally I thought that dying the music down gradually at the end would work better for the theme of the track, and I prefer it over the other ending which felt too abrupt. I think I agree with you about how the beat came in through a cooler transition in the other one than this version though.

Anyway, it's why I kept both versions up. I can totally see why you prefer the other one and I'm really glad you dropped by to review! Thanks again.

I can't help but move while listening to this. :D Great work, Headz!

headphoamz responds:

Thanks K :D

You did good! You did very good. I only took off half a star because of the audio quality. :)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks! Yeah, I agree; the quality could be improved :)

Wow, the ambient dimension created by all those chimes! The whole track is great, but that beginning really pulled me in.

Emid responds:

Thank you Krichotomy. Glad you enjoyed.

Experiment was a success. The piano parts particularly appeal to me.

I'd say it definitely belongs in chip, and not in classical.

johnfn responds:

Thank you! It's interesting how you like the piano but think it's a chip song! :)

It's wonderful. Sadly, I don't have any mental imagery. My imagination is dead right now. I title this piece, "Remorse for a Dead Imagination". :)

johnfn responds:

Haha... actually, that's a lot more accurate than you may expect.

Very interesting mesh of sounds.

BenTibbetts responds:

Thanks. :)

This. This is wonderful. I feel like I'm in a whole different world just listening to it.

Where can I find this material originally composed by Taizen Chisou?

I read the tags in order, and it sounded like they were spelling out your name as Benjamin "1 Ostinato" Tibbits.

BenTibbetts responds:

Thank you!

The original was a little track called "Unsanctuary" for a game called "Lunacy Star". I was asked by Taizen to remix it for the purposes of a commission. Both the original game and music appear to be unavailable now. All of the links to the game I've found are broken, and the music appears to have been removed from SoundCloud.

"Lunacy Star" was mentioned on the Game Maker Community in 2013:

It's really really hard for me to sing while playing piano. It sounds like you are singing "quietly". The track would probably sound better if you could sing louder, and also not have the piano melody exactly overlapping the vocal melody, or at least maybe shift octaves to have less frequency overlap. Those are my thoughts as I listen to this.

I do rather like the freestyling at the end.
