An OpenLight classic! Nice notes, nice waves, nice beats.

At 00:53, 02:42, and a number of other places there is a strange subtle background sound that I can't figure out. Is it reflection of the note sliding? I initially thought it was a person talking. Anyway, I find it unsettling. Hence the deduction of 0.5 stars.

OpenLight responds:

Kircho, I think that may have been an effect of your headphones with the delays and reverbs going on haha. I'm not sure what you're hearing, but I can swear that I did not put in subliminal messaging.

I'm glad that was the only major criticism though! I'm glad this was a new OL classic for you haha, and I certainly appreciate your continued support.

I find it strange that I never reviewed this track. Well- now I get to write a review on the updated version! :D

The melody is very simple, but that is not a fault. It has a strong characteristic sound and I find it to be memorable. The flute harmonies were a great touch. I rather enjoyed the lead guitar. The climactic section was beautiful. The ending felt a little less well-contrived than the rest of the track, but it works fine and it does sound nice. Overall, the track has a great progression and never gets boring or repetitive.

Unfortunately, my earbuds broke, so I'm listening only with my muddy production headphones. Regardless, this track sounds great and well-balanced to me. Only one thing bothers me. There is some percussion that occasionally hits three times. That instrument sounds like a static pop in my headphones, and stands far far out of the mix from the other instruments. (You can see these beats as spikes in the track waveform.) It is even more offending that it stands so far out only in the left channel. For this, I'm taking off half a star.

It really does sound like a lot of work went into this track, and the result is terribly pleasing to my ears. I believe this is my favorite work of yours, and I look forward to more. :)

SourJovis responds:

Strange indeed :P

Anyway I think your review on the updated version is more helpful since with the earlier version I already knew I had to change a lot of the things.

I will update the song at least once more. I will replace the reverb with a new reverb effect I recently got. Also I will try to look at replacement for the saxophone samples at the beginning of the song. I'm sure that can sound a lot better.

I will take your comments into account. Especially that of the loud percussion on the left side. I think you mean the electronic kick. It pans from left to right, and back again, but it starts of loudest on the left. I think I should take away a little of the treble. Keep the volume a bit more constant, so it will sound less loud on the left, and you will hear it on the right. I think I know what you mean by "ending felt a little less well-contrived than the rest of the track". I feel the same, but I don't know what to do about that. This just naturally flowed out of the first section. I don't know how to make it more interesting or what instruments to add.

Glad you like it. I'll try to improve it, and make more, better songs.

Very mellow. Very nice.

MrNightVarga responds:

Thanks =)

Nice work! Yeah, it's not fully polished, but it is enjoyable to listen to and you've got some pretty cool effects and stuff mixed in there. The violin is beautiful.

Deemo-R responds:

You like 'em? That's 8Dio Adagio strings, and they're simply amazing (I am a sucker for anything 8Dio). I did this just to try them out and built some random stuff around it. The disparity between good and 'meh' soundfonts is huuuuuge, though. The good soundfonts are CPU killers, too, so I had to put all of my percussion on one channel and cut back on the quality of vsti that I used for other instruments. I'd say it was worth it, though. I absolutely adore the quality of the violins.

Thanks for the review! :)

Wow, that melody line (and its accompanying harmonies). So intense. If I played a game with background music like this, I think it would become my favorite game even if I didn't like it. :P

Calamaistr responds:

thank you, i made over 500 tracks on this medium (music for the playstation®, thats a game') sadly i couldnt convert all of them back then, i wasnt technical enough and 90% of the tracks i did try to convert didnt come over right, thankfully about 30 did. Theres a few more of that era on my profile here and there. Dunno why i never uploaded this one before though, it definately is nice. (if you dont mind the instrumental quality being 'low, then again it has its charm)

What a fascinating and unusual composition! I can feel a strange new environment. Perhaps this will inspire a section of a story for me as well. The images currently arising in my mind are set in a deep cavern lit by lava. Occasionally, lava spouts shoot up from various geysers throughout the cavern.

Calamaistr responds:

The thought about this was of a barren wasteland with dirty snow dust floating everywhere. :)
Nice it inspires you.

Oh, this one /is/ good. I'm going to put it in my collection of music that inspires further music and stories. Even the title is thought-provoking.

Isn't it awesome for one of your own compositions to be so significant to you? :)

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks a lot for all these reviews Krichotomy!
I really appreciate them, as well as the fact that you're listening to the music I've made :D

It is awesome indeed :3

*slurps up all the tasty reverb*

Thanks for uploading this short track. I think it has the perfect "pensive" feel for an opening thought.

Step responds:

Woo. Yeah the reverb is so tasty isn't it. I love putting a lot of reverb on pianos. It sounds incredibly pretty.

Glad it works as intended! Thanks for reviewing man.

Lightly suspenseful, yet calm. It makes me feel very... resolute.

To add my opinion on the drums, I would dislike them to be harder. The soft drums are perfect to me.

Step responds:

Whoops... forgot to reply to this. So busyyyy.

I'm glad you like the drums! Honestly I don't think I'd ever make them louder than they currently are. I don't think they're OUT OF THIS WORLD or anything but I would like to keep them fairly soft and understated in a few of the sections.

Thanks for the review :3.

Very grief, much Halloween, such denial. That gasp shocked me, too. Nice work, and thanks for digging it up, capping it off, and sharing it with us!

Deemo-R responds:

Thank you more for taking a look at it! :3
