"Survival of the Hungriest" aka "plz dun eat me i dun wanna be füd".

I am impressed by how strongly and cleanly the impact of this track is delivered. The entirety of its composition is pleasing to me.

I don't really get how the ending fits in with the story, but it's quite beautiful so I'll accept it anyway. Grin.

The use of brass and choir sound characteristically "Peter Satera" style to me, but everything else seems to be characteristic of the track itself. (This is more a neutral observation than praise or criticism.)

I listened to this track while reading your reply to Desiel391's review. It made your reply seem very heartfelt. Haha.

Good night! That first xylophone hit scared me! You really set the mood for it, too. Consider me spooked. :)

I think I would have added more reverb to the foreground vocals. Maybe.
I really like the quiet background vocals that show up in a couple places.

I always treated my toys very respectfully, so I have nothing to be afraid of! Right? Right?!

"I said SIT! DOWN!"
<toddler continues to run across the room, up the walls, across the ceiling...>

A very fun composition with a strong melody. (And nothing else, lol.) I like this piece exactly how it is.

BenTibbetts responds:

Thanks! :)

Woah, this is just cool. Mysterious and ethereal. Awesome for a 16-second loop. I'd love to hear a full length composition build around this.

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Thanks! You know, many people say they want my short loops to be made into longer compositions. I guess I'll have to make those wishes into a reality someday XD

This is wonderful for a visual novel menu. Immersion from the get-go!

00:32 gave me chills.

I think the end should be given a little more time to die down before looping. One more measure with just atmospheric sounds (or possibly with really quiet synth or guitar notes).

Step responds:

I am really relieved that you think that! I am definitely going back and reworking the loop. I'll give that a shot.

Glad you like it man!

XD <-- This is my face when listening to this track. To complete the image, please understand that I am dancing in my chair.

IMO, it sounds a little bit underwhelming for the title, but there is nothing displeasant or amiss with this nice little teaser. Grin.

"Powerful and Bright Teaser" sounds like the name of a Touhou game or comic. :P

Yay tinwhistles! Your Clarke D sounds a little better than mine. Maybe because mine was unplayable when it came in the mail, and I beat on it with a pair of pliers to fix it. :D

I think this track does what it does very well. It feels very... uplifting.

The tinwhistle is kinda buried under all the other stuff, but that doesn't bother me.

Props for getting some live tinwhistle and acoustic guitar on Newgrounds!

bassfiddlejones responds:

Thank you good sir!

Man, I know how you feel. It's remarkable all the ideas I have than only manifest as a pile of digital crap. Every now and then something actually works. But when I do have a "successful" project, suddenly all that failure feels worthwhile. Perhaps that is what life is made of. :)

This is a beautiful composition, though I think it would benefit a lot from more variation of note volumes.

To me, the most negative aspect of this piece is just the low quality (and I presume inflexibility) of the instruments used. The piano in particular sounds stiff and fake/weak.

OpenLight responds:

I just use what's at my disposal. Unfortunately, I do not have the rig nor the cash to get the instruments I wanted to get earlier this year, so I'm limited to the free piano vst's I have and my ability to mix them.

I did put in note volume variation, though unfortunately I was not able to come up with an efficient way of presenting my piano melodies and harmonies in a non-monotonous manner. I just hoped that the composition itself would stand out enough.

Anyway, thank you for the review!

Works for me. :)

I thought the chimey bell things at the end were really cool, but they kinda conflicted with the other instruments when they first came in, which kept them from standing out clearly until the other instruments dropped off.

Half-baked coder, musician, and writer. Chronically ill. Possibly a vampire. I want chocolate.
